The Torrent Defense Law Firm

Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026. This policy covers torrentdefense.com, operated by The Torrent Defense Law Firm (The Law Firm of Leonard J. French).

What we collect, and why

Contact form. Your name, email address, phone number, case number if you give one, your message, the page you sent it from, and the IP address your request came from. We use it to reply to you and to check for conflicts of interest. The IP address is used to block abuse and automated submissions.

Guide and case-watch sign-ups. Your email address, the page you signed up from, your IP address, and, for case-watch, the case number or IP address you ask us to watch for. We use it to send you the guide or to tell you when a matching case appears. You choose to give us the case number or IP address; we keep it only so we can notify you.

Case lookup. We do not store what you search on /lookup. The search is sent in the body of the request, not the web address, so it does not appear in our server logs or your browser history. Our analytics record only that a lookup happened and whether it found a match, never what you searched.

Scheduling. If you book a call, Calendly collects the details you enter on its booking page under its own privacy policy and passes them to us.

Analytics and cookies. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: pages viewed, the general location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and events such as phone-link clicks, form submissions, and booking a call. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this. Our forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person, not a bot, is submitting them. We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies.

Server logs. Like most websites, our server records the IP address, requested page, date and time, and browser of each request.

Case pages. Our case pages are built from public federal court records. They show the subscriber IP address alleged in the complaint, never a defendant’s name. Anyone may ask us to remove a case page through our privacy request form; a removed page does not say who asked.

Who receives it

Form submissions are stored in our own database and emailed to our attorneys through Resend, our email provider. Calendly, Google, and Cloudflare process data as described above. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We may disclose information when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Form and sign-up submissions: 90 days in our website’s database, then deleted automatically; the copy emailed to our attorneys is kept with the firm’s correspondence. Server logs: 14 days. Database backups, which include form submissions: up to 105 days (14 days on our server, and daily snapshots of those backups kept for 90 days on our own backup storage). Google Analytics data: the retention period set in our Google Analytics account.

Your choices and requests

You may ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email ljfrench@torrentdefense.com, call or text (610) 466-5644, or use the privacy request form. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we may keep information our professional obligations require us to keep. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, and Google offers an opt-out add-on for Google Analytics.

Do Not Track

Your browser may send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for responding to it, and this site does not currently change its behavior when it receives one. Other sites do not use this site to track you across the web.

California residents

This policy is intended to meet the California Online Privacy Protection Act. It lists the categories of personally identifiable information we collect, the third parties we share it with, how you can review and request changes to it, and how we respond to Do Not Track signals. When we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Confidentiality

Sending us a form or an email does not create an attorney-client relationship. Please do not send confidential details until we have spoken.
